What is the main reason that cause people to avoid doing things that they should be doing. One reason is the fear of making mistake. But we have to realise that we are human being and we do make mistakes now and then. In fact making mistakes is the only way to grow.
This concept also applies to taijiquan. I know some people drop out of taiji class because they keep on making mistakes. My advice is don't be afraid of making mstakes. Ask your instructor(if you are currently attendng any classes) and he/she should be able to correct your mistakes. Remember, it is through mistakes that we grow, be it in Taiji or in other aspects of your life.

Finding time to practise taiji
I find the many people especially beginners, face the same problem when it comes to setting aside a specific timeslot to practise taijiquan. (I face this problem too:-) ) Come on, you only need to spare 10 minutes a day, why do you give excuses that you have no time to practise.
I realise that the problems is cause by people not practising taiji long enough to experience its benefits. Therefore, it is very imprtant to stick to your practise for about 1 to 2 months to really experience the benefits yourself so that you will be motivated to continue practising.
But how do we stick to our practise for 1 to 2 months. First, we must constantly remind ourselves that after 2 months, I will definitely be able to experience the benefits of practising taijiquan. Secondly, try not to be too ambitious. It is quite common that as a beginners, we want to learn as much as possible in the shortest time. However, some things cannot be rush. If you really can't spare 10 mins a day, how about 5 minutes. The point is to constantly remind yourself to do it everyday until it becomes a habit.

Taijiquan as a Martial Art?
When I tell my friends that taijiquan is a form of martial art, they laugh. Why? In the previous post, I mentioned that it is a common scene to see old people doing taiji, moving in an awfully slow manner. How can tajiquan be a form of martial art when you are moving so slowly. The truth is, you have to built the foundation. Performing the move slowly is meant to familiarise yourself with the various moves of taijiquan. It is only in the more advance stage of practise when you are introduced to techniques like push hand. Learning anything requires patience, so is learning taijiquan. It can take up to 10 or even 20 years for someone to become proficient in using taijiquan as a martial art. However, don't be discouraged. Along the way, you will definitely reap a lot of health benefits.

Misconception about Taijiquan
A lot of people have the misconception that taijiquan is only meant for senior citizens. Why is that so. The main reason is because tradtionally, people have always seen old people doing taiji exercise in the park, moving in an awefully slow manner.
However, what a lot of people did not realise is that as slow as those movements may seem, if practised in the correct way, taijiquan does offer a lot of benefits. (I will create a post later to talk about the benefits of taijiquan.) In fact, taijiquan is suitable for people of all ages, from children of age 5 to elderly in their 90s.
